It was our first night in Lake Como. We had rode the funicular to the top and we were hungry. We saw some signs for the Trattoria del Cacciatore and when asking some locals where it was we ran into Dante, the proprietor, who graciously gave us a lift to the restaurant. This was absolutely our best meal in Lake Como. The homemade ravioli, mushroom tagliatelle, and polenta were outstanding. Polenta is a regional specialty and definitely worth ordering here. We also found a gem of a wine, Dievole Novacento Riserva, at a very reasonable price. The Trattoria is a wonderful dining experience, is off the beat and track, and definitely worth seeking out.

The salad starter was excellent. Fenal, fresh tomatoes, several tasty lettuces. Very good to start with. Nice crunch, perfect mix of textures.
Not a wimpy salad!
The polenta dish was different than I had before. The cheese was very strong, forward but not too overpowering. The polenta itself was different, not orange/corn colored and had a mix of herbs in it. Very flavorful. We also split a dish of spinache ravioli. The ravioli was super! The sage topping was a nice touch to an already great dish. I would highly recommend the ravioli!!
Even the bread was a nice complimentary touch! -

This was one of our best meals in Italy! We stayed at a small B&B and the owner suggested we eat here. Northern Italy is known for their polenta and del cacciatore had some of the best. We also had the carpaccio which my boyfriend and I thought was the best part of dinner. The location is great, very secluded and romantic. Owner and staff were very friendly. Great place!
